A Reflection of the Status Quo

Focused exploration of the status quo is key to clarity and vision. What are my experiences regarding Coronavirus and what does the current situation look like? What has been a surprise during the crisis like a particular initiative by the government, private sector or society worth sharing?

Adaptive Leadership and Family Business – Active Learning Simulation

Simulations can complement traditional family business education and provide hands-on non-traditional modes of learning. Participants are presented with a fictional family enterprise. Some facets of the business are predetermined and others are generated by participants. Participants are given three scenarios requiring hard decisions, before participants face the next scenario. An interactive debrief on adaptive leadership and decision-making under conditions of ambiguity complements the session.

A Peer Conversation on Personal Development in Times of Corona

Working in small groups, participants tap into one another’s experiences in the Corona crisis utilizing shared questions and situations to examine the themes that are closest to them as individuals in the current situation. Which development goals have I set for myself in the crisis? What motivates me on a personal level to keep going forward, what do I frequently struggle with and what common realizations can I share with the group?

Pandemics and Crisis Response for Family Business – Front Line Lessons

The world continues to grapple with short and long-term consequences of COVID-19. Family enterprises must adapt business portfolios, ownership structures and family systems. During phase two of the crisis, world leaders are rightly shifting from protecting lives to protecting livelihoods as companies adapt to ambiguous operational conditions with no end in sight. Discussion begins with a family enterprise perspective on crisis management. Research indicates that coping patterns and helpful frameworks emerge in families dealing with chronically elevated risks in frontier markets. Participants share challenges, ask for peer advice and hear examples of innovative crisis response strategies from other members.

Legacy, Impact Investing, and Circles of Moral Concern

Families are stewards of wealth who think and act on behalf of future generations, but families are also nimble and experimental. Should we think about legacy for a few generations, or potentially thousands of generations?
How can capital, along with other tools for effecting social change, be used in alignment with our values? And how might capital allocators – investors and donors – weigh the moral significance of proximity like geography and time?
